ARTIST STATEMENT & BIOGRAPHY
I enjoy creating something new and helping people understand how I feel as an artist. My favorite subjects to photograph are family and nature. I am inspired by the artist Helen Levitt, and the way she captures other people’s emotions. APP has helped me feel less self-conscious, and to spend time around other people. The project has helped me feel more satisfied with myself and my work.
I was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, in 1958, but moved to Athens in the 1960s, and have lived here most of my life. I attended school in the Federal Hocking School District, where I took classes in cooking, carpentry, trucking, and Taekwondo. I now hold a first-degree black belt, and love to sing, write songs, and do karaoke. I enjoy photographing the things that I love and that are important in my life. Photography and the Athens Photographic Project have helped me be happy and improve my relationships with others.
