ARTIST STATEMENT & BIOGRAPHY
I was born in Waco, Texas, near the North Branch of the Brazos River. As the son of a military man, I moved around a lot, from the great Southwest, to the deep South, to the far Northeast.
I began my journey into photography when, as a child, I used a Brownie camera to photograph my first experience with death: the funeral procession of JFK, which I saw on the console of my black-and-white television. I began digital photography classes with the APP in the fall of 2010, and have participated and exhibited with the project ever since. In 2012, I received an Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Grant.
The main subjects of my photography are scenics, nature, and wildlife, although I have attempted to broaden my horizons while working within APP. Bringing glimpses of my reality is one of the reasons I’ve stayed with photography for so long. The APP has become the spark for what once lay dormant.
