ARTIST STATEMENT & BIOGRAPHY
I struggled with my work in woodcut printmaking for 27 years. I then found my roots and passion in abstract art. My second year with the Athens Photographic Project, I found my calling: nighttime photography. I love to paint, distort, and warp the light with my camera. I’ve realized that I am a surrealist, and am now at peace with myself and my work.
I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, as one of eleven children. I came to Athens in 1991 and fell in love with the country life of southeast Ohio. My daughter was born in Athens in 1994. I have deep roots in Athens because of all the people and places I know here.
I have studied at several universities in Ohio. While studying business, I “drifted” into the arts and found an outlet for expression. In 1991, I earned my B.F.A. in printmaking and minored in photography at Wright State University. I then went to Ohio University to pursue graduate studies in printmaking. In the fall of 2011, I joined APP, which has given me a brand new kind of exposure to photography, and has opened his eyes in new directions.
