ARTIST STATEMENT & BIOGRAPHY
Being an artist is the essence and purpose of my life. An artist is someone who creatively expresses a specific skill. My photography is like patchwork, wherein I try to combine personal injury and art. I like to create work that is eclectic, and that uses techniques such as double-exposure and abstraction. I hope to create timeless images that suggest that life isn’t just an aimless course. Artists like Helen Levitt inspire me most. APP has helped me create heartwarming images that empower me through life’s darkest moments.
I used to live in Hocking County, but moved to Athens in the early 1990s, after I was hospitalized and became homeless. Since then, I have earned my GED, attended college courses, and worked at Nelson McCoy Pottery in Roseville, Ohio, among other jobs. I am a published poet, and had my photographs featured in a juried photography exhibition for the first time in 2014. For me, photography has been both enjoyable and challenging, and has provided an effective means of self-expression.
