ARTIST STATEMENT & BIOGRAPHY
My camera writes the poems that give my heart the courage to go on. The beauty of such a craft comes from the heart, and needs to be seen as such. As an artist, I feel like I can achieve just about anything. I specialize in nature photography, and am influenced by publications such as National Geographic, Smithsonian Magazine, and Wild Ohio. The APP has changed my life in many ways. I have met a lot of wonderful people, many of whom have also been my mentors.
I was born in Akron, Ohio, but grew up in the southeastern part of the state. I moved to Athens in 1995, purely out of curiosity. The beauty of the city has kept me here. Calligraphy and poetry first introduced me to art.
In the fall of 2007, I joined the APP and completed film and digital classes. My work has since been part of eight juried APP exhibitions and three VSA Ohio traveling exhibitions. I am currently working on images that have stretched me mentally and physically. I hope that by exhibiting my work, the public will see me as a person who shares this world with the rest of humanity, rather than as someone isolated by mental illness. In addition, I am mentor to the introductory APP classes, an adventure I began in the fall of 2011.
